Brazilian Tulio Charles de Oliveira Carvalho came to Brabant with his wife and son. This is their second time in the Netherlands. The Southeast Netherlands is... a quiet place to work and to spend quality time with family.

Where are you originally from?
I am from Montes Claros, Brazil.

Why did you move to the Southeast Netherlands?
I came to Eindhoven for research on power quality.

Do you have a favorite motto? If so, what is its significance?
"The easy road often becomes hard, and the hard road often becomes easy". This means that hard work is the way to get quality of life in the near future

Is there anything that you wish you knew before moving here?
Yes there is. I wanted to know about the school and different activities for my wife and son before arriving in the Netherlands.

Are you a member of any international organizations or clubs?
No, I am not.

What is your best piece of advice for other expats?
Be yourself. The expats must respect the Dutch culture, but should not forget their own culture.

What was your first impression of the Southeast Netherlands?
A city that is planned and organized.

Did you experience culture shock the first time you moved here?
Yes, I did. The type of food and daily use of cold clothes. For example, at lunchtime I was not used to eating bread. Regarding the cold clothes, we are not used to wearing gloves, knit cap and other accessories.

What did you learn during your first stay here?
I learned to live with different cultures makes us better people.

What do you miss most from home?
The family, the sun and the food.

If you had to leave the Southeast Netherlands tomorrow, what would you miss?
I will miss the Frikandellen.

What is missing in the Southeast Netherlands?
The sun. If the weather was better than we could better enjoy the city

What is your favorite part about living in this part of the Netherlands?
I like Eindhoven because it is a city with the tranquility of a small town and at the same time the development of a big city.

If you could go back in time, to before you moved here, would you still move?
Yes, of course. So much so that I'm back.

What is your favorite thing to do in the Netherlands over the weekend?
Traveling, visiting cities in Holland, going to parks with our son and of course, meeting other Brazilians to remember our culture.
